Five Mile Pass

Five Mile Pass, Utah - Wikipedia:

"Five Mile Pass is located about 20 miles (32 km) west of Lehi, Utah on the Utah County and Tooele County line. The area, part of the Great Basin Desert is popular for motocross, off highway vehicle recreation, mountain biking, hiking, and camping.

The area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management of the United States government. The Pony Express passed through the area during 1860-1861. The area also was traveled by the stagecoach and pioneer families heading west for Nevada and California. Other historical activities in the area include mineral mining and quarrying.

Due to heavy use in the area there is a lot of trash that is left behind and volunteer groups have organized to help keep the area clean."

ATVTrails:

"Five Mile Pass is a very popular ATV riding venue. It is located approximately 15 miles west of Lehi, Utah on Highway 73 on the Tooele/Utah County border. It is noted for being on the old Pony Express Route, but in reality, more recently, the area to the North of the road is part of the Mercur/Ophir Mining district, the area to the South has served for sheep grazing on BLM land for many years."

Emergency Kit

Having an emergency kit on the vehicle with you is vital to your survival should you or your partner encounter an emergency on the trail. You should carry a pack with you on every ATV ride, even short ones. Your pack should contain the following items:

   * A small tool kit or a multi tool.
   * Flat tire sealant and a tire pump or compressed air.
   * Spare spark plugs and spark plug wrench.
   * Fire-starting equipment.
   * High-energy food.
   * Water.
   * A map of the area and a compass.
   * Brightly-colored flagging tape.
   * Cord or string.
   * Warm clothing and/or rain gear.
   * A few large garbage bags.
   * A plastic whistle.

   * One or two knives.
   * Soap or sanitizing lotion.
   * Prescription medication (if needed).
   * A First Aid kit.
   * A GPS and/or SPOT locator device.
   * Water purifying tablets or other water purifiers.
   * Flashlight with extra batteries.
   * Hatchet or collapsible hand saw.
   * Fully charged cell phone.
   * Duct Tape.
   * Zip (quick) ties.

First Aid Kit

In an hour or two of riding, you can go farther than the distance you can walk in a day. This is why it's important to be prepared for any situation you may encounter on the trail.

First Aid Kit:

While you cannot foresee all emergencies you might encounter on the trails, you can help protect yourself and your loved ones by being prepared for such emergencies before they happen. Taking a class in First Aid and CPR could save your life one day. When you head out for a ride, always have a small First Aid kit handy, containing the following items:

   * Two pairs of sterile, non-latex gloves.
   * Sterile dressings to stop bleeding.
   * Tape or curlex to hold dressings in place
   * Cleansing agent or soap and antibiotic towelettes to disinfect.
   * Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.
   * Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes.
   * An elastic bandage.
   * Triangle bandages.

   * QuickClot® for bleeding wounds.
   * A splint to immobilize limbs.
   * Tweezers and a needle.
   * Aspirin and non-aspirin pain relievers.
   * Prescription medications you take every day (check expiration dates on medications).
   * Eye-wash solution to flush the eyes or as a general decontaminant.
   * A First Aid handbook or guide.
